UCSD Neuroscience Outreach Program

The UCSD Neuroscience Outreach program is both founded and organized by graduate students of the UCSD Neurosciences Graduate Program. The goal of or program is to share our knowledge of the brain and neuroscience research with students and community members of San Diego. We achieve this primarily by bringing our teaching modules to classrooms and various other community events.

Throughout the year, graduate student volunteers are able to share their enthusiasm for neuroscience by teaching these introductory, hands-on activities. Student directors are in charge of arranging outreach events in the greater San Diego area. At these events, student volunteers present our teaching modules (1) Sheep’s Brain Dissection and (2) Comparative Neuroanatomy . These modules can be adapted to suit a variety of ages and have been taught at all grade levels, including Biosciences Day at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Musuem in Balboa Park and Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering (BEWISE) workshops
at the Salk Institute for Biological Research.

Our program is now starting its fifth year and we continue to grow. If you would like to learn more about our teaching modules or possibly scheduling an event at your school, please visit us here: Request a visit where you will be put in contact with one of our volunteer coordinators.
